Backwoods Cooking

Menu
Bacon & Eggs
Tea and Cakes
cooked the alternative way

The bacon is placed in a paper bag and held above the hot coals. (Not too near else the bag will catch light). The heat from the coals melts the fat in the bacon which then cooks.
The eggs are broken into hollowed out orange halves (potatoes or similar can also be used). These are then placed in the hot coals and the eggs allowed to cook.
The cake mix is placed in individual cake papers and placed on a rack above a carton of hot coals (foil take-away containers are ideal). A foil lined box is then placed over the lot to keep the heat in.
A paper conainer is made using origami folds (japanese water lantern or water bomb design) The water is then put in the container and placed next to the hot coals (not on else the paper could burn). The water keeps the paper cool enough to stop it burning. When the water is boiling pop in a tea bag.

The cakes go on a rack above the hot coals, and are covered with the foil covered box The bacon goes in a brown paper bag and is held over the coals No not fishing but cooking the bacon The tea is brewed in a container made from paper using origami folds..placed on a rack above the coals it doesn't burn The eggs are cooking in hollowed out orange halves Eating the end result is the best part

Water Activities

During the summer we spend most of our time out on the water. We canoe and sail in Portsmouth Harbour, Langstone Harbour or Alverstoke Lake. We provide training in theory and practicise such that the scouts can be assessed for BCU and RYA sailing qualifications. To participate in the water activities all must demonstrate a 50 metre swim, in clothes, at the local pool.
