Canoe Rack Construction

On a bleak and cloudy morning the four overworked leaders. Dave Harvey, Cathy and Pete, arrived at the Tudor Sailing Club ready to build the new canoe rack. The site was a bit of a tip being covered, amongst other things, with barrels, old chain and railway sleepers.

The first order of the day was 'Clear the site'. Doning work gloves and pushing wheel barrows we set to our task.

Then came the weeding and removal of small shrubs etc that would have grown up under the rack!

At this point we could se that we needed the canoes in order to get the dimensions correct. Harvey and Dave were despatched to get the canoe trailer whilst Pete and Cathy did the difficult bit...going for coffee.

Our leader had the plans of the construction in his head but never got round to drawing them out. Unfortunately he had a pressing prior engagement (he went to see a rugby match) and didn't come and help. A scrap of paper later and we had a rough drawing of what we thought he had described to us.
Construction can commence. [We would like to thank those who donated the materials for this construction].

Luckily one of us had some knowledge of scaffolding and so could direct us as to what to do.

A bit of padding around the tubing to protect the canoes. Trim the poles (the sparks that flew when that was done. It was like a firework night).

Stand back and work out what have we forgotten.

What next?

The finished job ... other than the locking bars, paddle box .... we'll have to come back another time.

And if your wandering why Pete never appears in any of these pictures its because he's behind the camera. He did do some work ... honest.
