Water Activities 2002

During the summer we spend most of our time out on the water. We canoe and sail in Portsmouth Harbour, Langstone Harbour or Alverstoke Lake. We provide training in theory and practicise such that the scouts can be assessed for BCU and RYA sailing qualifications. To participate in the water activities all must demonstrate a 50 metre swim, in clothes, at the local pool.

43rd Regatta

The 43rd Regatta was held on 26th July 2002 at the Tudor Sailing Club.

The races aimed at having fun and getting wet were followed by a BBQ and an investiture.

The races were

A to B race
Scavenger Hunt for bottles to spell out a word
Blindfold driver with passenger race
Three legged kayak where two kayaks are tied together with a slip knot
Raft-Up race where teams would raft up then run along the decks of the kayak and back to their place

Water Expedition

To practice their growing skills we took the scouts on a days expedition into the far reaches of Langstone harbour. Being out for the whole day we had the opportunity to sail and kayak as well as have fun on the sand banks. The weather started out with hardly any wind which was great for the kayaks bit not so good for the sailing boats. After we set up a base on one of the sandbanks in the harbour the wind increased enough for us to have a good sail.

Tudor Regatta June 2002

One of our mirrors manned by two scouts, Matt and Todd took part in the Tudor Regatta Dinghy Handicap Race. In their first race after taking into account the handicaps they came second. They didn't do so well in the next race but ended up sixth overall for the day.
